The NHSI presents two online program options during the school year!
Winter Teen Acting Boot Camp
Spend your Saturdays this winter learning the craft of acting from Actor/Teacher Marcus Folmar!
With recent appearances on shows such as Black-ish, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Fresh Off The Boat, Marcus Folmar has booked more than 80 TV shows, commercials and films. For the past 13 years, he’s been helping other artists do the same as an acting and audition coach. In this 10-week essential skills workshop, students will learn how to build dynamic characters, what it means to make strong choices, and how to translate both in a performance.
Participants will receive guidance on selecting and refining a monologue which is often required when seeking representation or applying to conservatories and university theater programs. Additionally, students will execute a series of mock auditions through which they’ll discover the difference in approach required for commercial casting versus TV and Film and get best practices for creating competitive self-taped submissions which has now become the industry’s go to method for finding talent.
Dates: January 15th, 2022 – March 19th, 2022, Saturdays only from 1pm – 3pm CST
Fees: $400 for 10 sessions. Financial aid is available for students with need.
Eligibility: This program is available to students who are currently in any grade in high school, freshmen through seniors are welcome.
Winter TV Pilot Boot Camp
This winter Playwriting Faculty Member John Corwin will offer a unique online experience for students interested in television and writing! Ever had have an idea for a TV series? That’s great! Here’s where you can learn how to turn that idea into a script and long-running series. Email correspondence with your instructor will begin two weeks before programming starts with guided brainstorming assignments, shows to watch and materials to read in order to learn the industry standards of genre, format and structure. Over the eight session intensive, students watch and discuss pilots from popular, acclaimed shows, analyze the scripts, and discover what makes the show work, how they succeed and how they fail. Students will then take what they’ve learned and apply that to their own ideas, assembling an outline for the pilot and even writing the teaser and first act.
