Acting on Camera

An intensive three-week course focused on tailoring performances to the screen.   Students will acquire the skills to analyze character and text and practice making strong performance choices that work for both film and television.  Learn best practices for on-camera auditions from industry professionals and explore the world of acting for the camera at NHSI this summer.

Production/Screenwriting

Students will study the fundamentals of storytelling and screenplay structure, gaining an understanding of the most important part of any film: the story, while simultaneously acquiring the tools to create film meaning and creative approaches to production.  Daily classes in screenwriting, directing, and production will guide student filmmakers through the theory and techniques needed to bring their creative visions to life. Craft your screenplay and prep it for production in this fun and intensive 3-week course. (NHSI is exploring the possibility of adding a 10-day intensive screenwriting program for interested students once they have completed the Production/Screenwriting program.)

Post-Production

Take your film to the next level with NHSI’s two-week Post-Production class.  This session provides students the opportunity to really dive deep into the full Adobe Creative Cloud. This fully practical application driven curriculum will be guided by industry professionals with the goal of providing students the necessary tools to enhance not only the work created in our Production class, but future projects that will be useful for college portfolio submissions.  Students will learn hands-on techniques to improve their editing, color correction, After Effects, sound design, and a myriad of useful post-production skills to realize their filmmaking goals.

What Our Students Have Said:

There were so many different types of people with such strong creative outlooks. The faculty were also incredible! They were so inspiring, talented, and warm.”

I learned so many valuable things this summer…I learned about things having to do with film and video such as acting techniques, TV writing, and production/camera angles and terms. However, I also learned vital lessons regarding acceptance, diversity, friendship, collaboration, cooperation, independence, and more.”

My favorite component was working with such amazing and open minded students and teachers. We were all there for the same reason – to tell stories – to tell our stories.”

What Our Faculty Have Said:

When you are 16 and you want to make movies, you feel like you don’t belong and at NHSI, they belong.  That is one of the best parts of this program – that the students find their community.

What Our Parents Have Said:

My daughter was a Cherub this summer in the NHSI Film & Video Division. To say she had the time of her life would be a gross understatement. To be frank, words cannot express what an incredible experience this was for her. Every single time we spoke with her her happiness, excitement, creative energy and passion came through.  She was surrounded by other individuals who had the same passion and work ethic she had. She was amazed by the talent in the program, from the directors and teachers to the other students. We had high expectations for the program but none of us could have imagined how incredible it would be.
