Musical Theatre 2-week extension: July 30, 2023 – August 12, 2023.
**The Musical Theatre tuition includes both the 5-week Theatre Arts Program and a 2-week Musical Theatre Extension. Stage Management/Design-Tech students may also apply for the full 7-weeks.
The 2-week Musical Theatre Extension program begins after the 5-week Theatre Arts program has concluded and focuses on Musical Theatre training. The structure of the Musical Theatre Extension program mirrors the existing Musical Theatre certificate program at Northwestern University.
Students must conclude the rigorous 5-week Theatre Arts training before beginning their specialized training in Musical Theatre. Students may NOT just attend the 2-week extension.
Students will continue the work of the prerequisite Theatre Arts program. They will receive additional instruction and direction in the Core classes of acting and voice & movement with a focus and concentration on musical theatre. Included in their study will be classes in musical theatre acting, dance (jazz, tap, and musical theatre styles), musical theatre history, and voice classes.
“I learned a lot about how to act the song and play a character I had never played before. I really enjoyed working on the [musical] production.”
The program will culminate in a public revue performance of musical scenes and ensemble numbers. All Musical Theatre students will perform.
Professional directors, actors, choreographers, and educators will teach the Core classes in acting, movement, dance and voice. In addition to regular curriculum, guest artists will be brought in to teach master classes.
Guest Artists and Workshops
Previous guest artists have included Northwestern directors Dominic Missimi and David Bell; Actors Susie McMonagal (Broadway, Les Miserables), David Girolmo (Broadway, Candide), Hollis Resnick (National Tour, Thoroughly Modern Millie), Sean Blake and Jeff Dumas (Goodman and Kennedy Center, Bounce), 2003 Tony© Award Winner, Michelle Pawk (Hollywood Arms), and Rondi Reed and Steven Skybel (Chicago cast, Wicked).
“My favorite component…was how much we were able to pack into just two weeks. I feel so grateful that I got to work on many numbers from shows, see performances, experience master classes, learn dance, take vocal coaching, learn about the history of [musical] theatre, and get college and future advice at Cherubs. It was amazing and exceeded any expectations I had.”
